As an environmentally friendly green flame retardant, magnesium hydroxide has the advantages of good flame retardancy, non-toxicity and non-corrosiveness. However, the magnesium hydroxide produced on the market has a large particle size, and when used directly as a flame retardant, it suffers from poor dispersion and incompatibility with the polymer matrix, which affects the flame retardant effect and the mechanical properties of the material. Therefore, modification of magnesium hydroxide to improve its dispersion and compatibility in polymers has become the key to enhance the performance of flame retardants.
Ultra-fine technology:
Reduce the particle size of magnesium hydroxide to nano or micron level by physical or chemical methods. Superfine magnesium hydroxide has higher specific surface area and surface energy, easier to disperse in the polymer and improve the flame retardant efficiency.
Surface chemical coating: Surface modification of magnesium hydroxide using surfactants, coupling agents, hyperdispersants and so on. These modifiers can chemically react or physically adsorb with the surface of magnesium hydroxide to form a coating layer and improve the compatibility of magnesium hydroxide with the polymer matrix. Among them, coupling agents such as silane coupling agent is one of the most commonly used modifiers, which can significantly reduce the apparent viscosity of the composite system, improve the fluidity of the system, and improve the flame retardant properties.
Microencapsulation technology:
Magnesium hydroxide is wrapped in a polymer membrane to form microcapsules. Microencapsulation technology can not only improve the compatibility of magnesium hydroxide and polymer matrix, but also improve the mechanical properties of composite materials, thermal stability and flame retardant properties. NANOFIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Nano-scale magnesium hydroxide is prepared by using nanotechnology. Nanoscale magnesium hydroxide has higher surface activity and smaller particle size, which can be more evenly dispersed in the polymer and improve the flame retardant effect.
