When crosslinked with activated magnesium oxide, this rubber exhibits excellent physical and mechanical properties, especially low permanent deformation. Neoprene
The role of active magnesium oxide in the manufacture of neoprene cannot be ignored. In addition to being used as a vulcanizing agent in conjunction with zinc oxide, it is also widely used as an active agent and inorganic accelerator for virtually all types of chloroprene rubber. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the addition of activated magnesium oxide significantly improves the scorch properties of the rubber, which in turn improves the mixing effect and storage safety of the rubber blend. However, if an inactive magnesium oxide is used, its role in neoprene rubber will be greatly reduced and it can only act as an inert filler and will increase the alkalinity of the rubber. This not only makes it lose its anti-scorch function, but may even accelerate the occurrence of early vulcanization to some extent. Therefore, the selection of active magnesium oxide as an additive is crucial in the production of neoprene rubber.
