Application

Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a widely used food additive with many important applications. As a common food additive, magnesium oxide is mainly used as an anti-caking agent to prevent food from caking and to maintain its fluidity. In addition to this, magnesium oxide also plays an important role in food processing as a bulking agent, flour treating agent, preservative and stabilizer.

 

Anti-caking agent

Magnesium oxide is most commonly used as an anti-caking agent in food products, especially in table salt and other mineral supplements. Due to its hygroscopic nature, it absorbs moisture and prevents particles or powders from caking. This is critical to maintaining the flow of salt and other mineral supplements, as it helps prevent caking problems during storage and use of the product.

 

Erythroblast

Magnesium oxide is also used as a bulking agent in baked goods. It reacts with acids to produce carbon dioxide gas, which causes foods such as dough or cakes to expand and form a porous structure. This property makes magnesium oxide useful in the preparation of foods such as pastries, cookies and breads to add volume and texture.

 

Flour treatment agent

Magnesium oxide can be used as an acidity regulator and flour whitener in the flour treatment process. It neutralizes the acidity in the flour while increasing the whiteness and brightness of the flour. This application helps to improve the quality and appearance of the flour, making it more suitable for use in baking and pasta making.
