Application

Enhanced toughness of composite systems

The application of modified magnesium carbonate in polypropylene was found to have significant effects through repeated experiments by Zehui. Firstly, polypropylene (PP)/lightweight magnesium carbonate composites prepared by melt blending method can reduce the crystallinity of the composite system, lower the impact strength, and produce β-spherical crystals, thus enhancing the toughness of the composite system.

Decomposition and heat absorption

The decomposition temperature of basic magnesium carbonate is 200~550℃, which is larger than the decomposition temperature range of iron hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. When the composite material burns, magnesium alkali carbonate can decompose and absorb heat, releasing crystalline water and carbon dioxide, thus preventing the combustion.
