Basic properties
Magnesium oxide is an alkaline oxide with the chemical formula MgO. It is white powder, insoluble in water and ethanol, with a melting point of 2852°C and a boiling point of 3600°C. It has high fire-resistant insulation properties, easily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide when exposed to air, and combines with water to form magnesium hydroxide. This process releases heat and absorbs a large amount of moisture.
Application
High-purity magnesium oxide is widely used as a desiccant due to its excellent moisture absorption function. It can absorb moisture in the air and reduce humidity, thereby protecting many items from moisture and extending their shelf life.
